Autumn-Winter is usually the time of the year that I am particularly happy with the state of my skin and attempt to bring back some glow to my skin. These drier months give my skin a much-needed respite from the sweat and oil that is brought on in droves during the summer and my skin reacts amazingly well to this change by holding off on breakouts and clogged pores.

The colder months also give me an opportunity to create the much sought-after dewy glow on my skin which is near-impossible to attempt during the grueling summer heat (especially in Delhi, where the temperatures soar to as high as 50 degrees Celsius) and I love busting out some of the products that I can’t even dream about using earlier in the year.

Since I work so hard to keep my skin as clear as possible, I don’t like piling too many products on my skin and prefer to keep things light and luminous.

After much trial and error, I have found the perfect combination of products that give me flawless yet natural looking skin.

As my skin is drier than normal in the winter months, I like to use a product to prime my skin that delivers a tad bit more hydration than the average primer while also smoothing out my skin and blurring out pores.

A primer that delivers on all these fronts is the Vitamin C Instant Glow Enhancer by The Body Shop. The fluid consistency of this product makes it easy to spread onto the skin while its light texture allows it to sink into the skin incredibly quickly without leaving any tackiness or stickiness. It is this quality that allows foundation to apply beautifully atop it. Despite also having a slightly iridescent sheen, the product does not leave an unnatural shine on the skin and instead creates the most beautiful glow.

Unlike some other hydrating primers I have used, the Instant Glow Enhancer has caused no adverse reactions on my skin and instead has kept it hydrated and smooth.

After letting the Instant Glow Enhancer sit on my skin for a minute or so, I move on to the Born This Way foundation by Too Faced. This foundation has been one of my favourite launches over the last few years. After struggling with trying to find a foundation that sat properly on my oily skin, I was overjoyed when Too Faced launched this beauty. The Born This Way is enriched with coconut water, Alpine Rose and Hyaluronic Acid, which all contribute to a hydrating finish on the skin. While other heavier coverage foundations often sit awkwardly on my skin, this foundation blends in seamlessly and leaves an undetectable natural matte finish on the skin. It has medium coverage and evens out my skin beautifully.

This foundation has not broken me out and is easily kept intact all day with just a few dabs of a blotting paper. An absolutely brilliant release by Too Faced!

Concealer has always been the most important step in my foundation routine as I feel that this step makes the biggest contribution to creating a flawless finish. Instead of foundation, I rely on concealer to take care of blemishes, dark spots, redness and dark circles under my eyes.

There is no thinking twice when I say that the Sensual Skin Enhancer by Kevyn Aucoin is my favourite concealer of all time. I am hard pressed to name another concealer that comes close to matching the coverage, finish and wear-time of this cult-favourite concealer. I find that the tiniest amount of this product makes blemishes and dark spots vanish into thin air without me needing to worry about touching up throughout the day. However, as this product is quite heavy duty, I do not like using it under my eyes to cover dark circles.

For under my eyes, a recent favourite combination has been the Corrector in Peach by Bobbi Brown and the Ultra HD Invisible Cover Concealer by Make Up For Ever.

The peachy tone of the Corrector by Bobbi Brown does wonders to combat the bluish darkness under my eyes while the latter and relatively new launch by Make Up For Ever brings a lovely brightness to the centre of the face. Despite being on the thicker side, the malleable texture of the Ultra HD Concealer allows it to blend seamlessly into the skin.

Hourglass-Ambient- Lighting-Powder

The final step in my foundation routine involves me setting these products on my face with the Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light by Hourglass. This amazing powder by Hourglass allows me to create a dewy but not overly shiny finish to my skin while setting the rest of my makeup as well. A truly solid product by Hourglass!

I hope this simple foundation routine helps all you oily-skinned girls out there to achieve that flawless, dewy glow.

Till the next time…
